Common Mistakes to Avoid

DISTURBING ASBESTOS CEMENT SHEETING. Untrained crews who drill or strip old sheets release fibres and create HSE enforcement risk. Encapsulation by a competent contractor is often safer and cheaper than removal.

IGNORING THE PART L 50% RULE. Re-sheeting more than half a roof plane triggers a requirement to upgrade the insulation. Confirm the thermal specification before signing the contract.

USING THE WRONG FIXINGS. Mixing incompatible metals or fitting cheap carbon-steel screws causes corrosion streaks and premature sheet failure. Fixings must match the cladding manufacturer's specification.

OVER-CLADDING AN UNSOUND STRUCTURE. New sheeting and insulation add load to old purlins and steelwork. A structural check before over-cladding protects the whole building.

Can you over-clad my asbestos cement roof instead of removing it?
In most cases, yes. Over-cladding encapsulates asbestos cement sheeting beneath a brand-new insulated roof, avoiding the cost and disruption of full removal. We assess the condition of the existing roof and existing structure first, then install a new steel profile or composite envelope over it, leaving you with a weather-tight, compliant roof while the hazardous material stays safely sealed.
How long does an industrial re-sheeting project take?
It depends on the size and complexity of the building, but a typical single industrial unit is re-sheeted in days rather than weeks. We work section by section to keep the building water-tight throughout, and can schedule around your operations, including weekends and shutdown periods, so your business isn't interrupted.
Are your cladding systems guaranteed?
Yes, new cladding and sheeting installations carry guarantees of up to 20 years, covering both our workmanship and the manufacturer's material warranty. We also hold £5 million public liability insurance, and all work is carried out by IPAF and CSCS trained operatives under full risk assessments and method statements.
